2008 Autumn Program Training program for Advanced manufacturing through the Fusion of Traditional technology and modern science (TAFT) Seeking wisdom, beauty and technology in Kyoto Over the past 100 years, Kyoto Institute of Technology (KIT) has moved forward with the times since it was founded as Kyoto College of Industry and Kyoto College of Textile Fibers. Set in Japan's ancient capital, the source of traditional culture, KIT has established a unique academic culture seeking wisdom, beauty and technology. KIT has produced a vast pool of human talent who continue to make academic, artistic, culture and industrial contributions to society. Following the successful example of our autumn intensive program for our students last year, we will implement the first autumn program, "TAFT : Seeking wisdom, beauty and technology in Kyoto". This program will last 3 weeks, aimed at students who are studying science, technology or art at overseas graduate schools with which KIT has or is planning to have academic agreement. The key concept of this program "Study together to appreciate world cultures" Duration September 2nd (Tuesday) through September 22nd (Monday), 2008 Number of participants 6 students Eligible students Graduate School students who are registered at the university with which KIT has or is planning to have academic exchange agreements. Fees KIT will provide class tuition, materials and accommodation.Participants will be asked to bear the cost of travel expenses and living expenses (food,etc.). Program September 2nd (Tuesday) Opening Ceremony / Orientation Study tour of Museum and Archives (regarding Japanese traditional arts) September 3rd (Wednesday) 〜 September 21st (Sunday) Research and presentation on topics related to Japanese traditional art based on group activities with KIT students as follows : (1) Field trip to traditional art studios One should choose from the following traditional art studios, ■ Yu-zen (dye-works) ■ Yumi (bow) ■ Kawara (roof tile) ■ Kiyomizuyaki (china) ■ Shirabeo (traditional rope) ■ Nishijin textile (braided fabric) ■ Kyokabe (Kyoto style earthen wall) ■ Kinsai (golden crafts on Kimono) ■ Kazarikanagu (metal crafts) ■ Kou (incense) (2) Study of Japanese tea ceremony (3) Excursion to Kyo-tango (northern part of Kyoto Prefecture) (4) Home stay (2 nights 3 days with a family in the Kyoto area) (5) Intercultural exchange activities with KIT students (6) Workshop (Making of Japanese traditional art) September 22nd (Monday) Presentation |
